Foundation

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Christian community; founded in Paris in 1833, by a group of young Catholic lay people and an older person, who joined together to create the first Conference.

The Holy Spirit was undoubtedly present in all of them at the founding of the Society, fostering the charism of each one. Among them, Blessed Frederic Ozanam was a radiant source of inspiration.

This icon of Blessed Frederic OZANAM is at the Vincentian Shrine in St Peter’s Church, Phibsborough, Dublin 7, Eire.

Our Structure

Conferences – the basic organizational unit of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Most commonly organized at local parishes. Most of the Society’s work is done by our Conferences, whose members visit their neighbors in need in their homes and help in the best way possible. Many Conferences also run food pantries, or other Special Works. There are four Conferences in the Marinette District. Learn More ->

District Council – Councils at all levels are formed to support the Conferences and the Members. Councils provide opportunities for developing community, sharing expertise, and keeping Conferences and members in touch with the Society as a whole. Councils help in the following areas, as needed: internal and external communication; formation and education; spirituality; reports; collaboration; outreach; advocacy; management of special works; and compliance with the Rule and good governance practices.
